Biography
Vernon Barker served in country in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He was drafted in June 1968, went to Vietnam in October 1968. In August of 1969, he writes, "I one of the last El Dorado boys to see Stanley Dean Calvin as he processed in Country. I also had the Honor and Sad Duty of escorting Stanley's remains back to El Dorado for burial." Vernon earned the National Defense Medal; the Purple Heart; Bronze Star; Air Medal w/1 Oak Leaf; Vietnam Service Medal w/ 3 Bronze Service Stars; Army Commendation Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Expert (M60 MG); Sharpshooter (Rifle).
