Biography

Major Richard L. Strickland servced in the U. S. Army Air Corps four years during World War II—January 1940 to 18 December 1944, when he was killed in action (KIA).

Duty:  Group Commandant - Air Corps Training Command

Honors:  One of the first hand-picked officers to receive dual rating in the Air Corps.  

Was picked for special training at West Point and Command and General Staff College, Leavenworth, KS  

Major Strickland completed pilot training with a rating of second in class, June 1941 (Class of 1941 - F)

He completed Special Training in  Navigation, June 1944.  

He was what they called "dual rated."  Could wear both Pilot and Navigator wings.

Promoted to Major in July 1944.  Commandant of four squadrons.  

Acting Director of Training for largest navigation school in the world during the entire summer of 1944.

Married Betty Claire Abraham, June 20, 1942.  One son, R. Scott Strickland, born March 13, 1945.

Burial site:  Veterans Cemetery, Ft. Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX.
