Biography

PFC Mack Ferren served in Europe in the U.S. Army during World War II.

The specific areas where he was stationed:  Rhineland, Northern France, and Central Europe.

In addition to his awards—Purple Heart, Bronze Star, and the European/African/Middle East Campaign Medal—he earned a Sharpshooter Badge for the M-1 Rifle and 30-Cal Carbine Rifle.

Mack was among those who participated in the Normandy Invasion.

The following inscription at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C.—words of General Dwight D. Eisenhower and a message to all troops about to embark—are featured at the base of the fountain marking D-Day:

"You are about to embark upon the great crusade toward which we have striven these many months.  The eyes of the world are upon you…I have full confidence in your courage, devotion to duty, and skill in battle."

World War II—Americans came to liberate, not to conquer, to restore freedom and to end tyranny.
