Biography

Sergeant "Bud" Schwemmer served in the U. S. Army for three years during World War II. He was a Combat Infantryman.

SGT Schwemmer received Basic Training at Ft. Hood, TX.  

He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, HI.  (This is the location of the popular film "From Here to Eternity").  He was scheduled for the mainland invasion of Japan, and had trained for a landing by boat.  The mission was cancelled because of the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.  

While waiting for the invasion, Sergeant Schwemmer was a prison guard at a Japanese Prisoner of War Camp.  

Included in his awards:  Combat Infantryman's Badge and a Sharpshooter Medal.
