Biography

1st Lieutenant Wendell "Phil" Davis saw duty as a Bombardier on a B-17 during World War II. 

(The Bombardier uses a bombsight and releases the bombs).

He entered service on 15 September 1942 at the age of 21.  Was sent to Mathers Field, Sacramento, CA.  

Duty:  Bombadier on B-17.  He was stationed in England and flew missions over Central Europe.  His plane was hit and he bailed out on 16 July 16 1944.

He was a Prisoner of War at Barth, Germany, until the Russians moved in in January 1945.  He said that he and his fellow POWs were nearly as afraid of the Russians as they were of the Germans.

Note:  In 2007, Lieutenant Davis was in the Veterans Hospital in Wichita, according to a note from his sister, Loriene Brewer.
