Biography

First Lieutenant Eugene Barr served as a Bombardier, Navigator with the 483rd Bombardment Group, located in Italy during World War II.  His years of service:  1942 - 1945.  

He flew 15 missions over Europe.

He returned to the states in November of 1945 and was headed for duty in the Pacific.

While home, dropping the atomic bomb on Japan ended the war, so duty in the Pacific was cancelled.

Gene was almost the first veteran to enroll at the University of Kansas.

Gene notes:  Bombardiers were scarce during the war.  They used one for duty on several planes.
