Biography
Sergeant Walt (Arlie) Redburn had tried to enlist in the Army during World War II but was turned down because of a spot on his lungs.
On September 30, 1948, he tried again and was accepted. He took his basic training at Ft. Ord, CA. He took truck mechanic training at Ft. Eustis and Camp Lee, VA. Then he took radar mechanic training. He was stationed near Nagasaki, Hiroshima, and Tokyo. He returned to the states in March 1952.
On his way home, he came by way of Hawaii. His brother, Howard, was stationed there on Oahu during the Korean Conflict. He visited there with him and his wife for two or three days and then headed home. The three of them spent some time on the beach and he went home with a sunburn and wearing a woolen uniform.
Walt was honorably discharged on July 3, 1952.
