Biography

Sidney Corbin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  He was an Electrician Second Class.

He took his boot training at the Navtra Center, Farragut, Idaho, and went on for more training at
Camp Bradford, Norfolk, VA.

He served on board the LST-845, the LST which carried Marines to Nagasaki in November 1945, after the bomb was dropped.

He also served on the USS Colusa, a ship laid down late in the war, used to discharge cargo at such places as Eniwetok and Guam.  After hostilities,  she carried men to Midway and made calls at Saipan, Sasebo, Okinawa, and Wakayama.  Another mission was to transport Canadian naval officers to Sydney, Australia, and American troops back to the USA.
Americans came to liberate, not to conquer, to restore freedom and to end tyranny.  —Inscription at the World War II Memorial, Washington D.C.
