Biography
Signalman First Class Herbert Barnt served in the U.S. Navy during World War II—1942 - 1945.
Ships on which he served: USS Susan B. Anthony and USS Torrance (AKA-76).
While serving on board the USS Susan B. Anthony, Barnt was commended for his performance of duty on 7 June 1944 when the USS Susan B. Anthony was sunk by an enemy mine in the Seine Bay off the coast of France.
Some battles in which he was involved: The initial invasion and occupation of Kerama Retto, Ryuku Islands; the initial combat unloading and occupation of Le Shima, Ryuku Islands, and the landing of reinforcements on Okinawa, Iwo Jima.
